With Six Flags Stock prices plummeting, no one knew what the Six Flags parks would get for 2004, if anything. Most thought the parks would focus on minor improvements and some thought maybe a few flat rides here and there, but nothing much. Well Six Flags Great America blew that theory out of the water when they announced their newest expansion project for the 2004 season. The park already had a number of attractions for their thrill rider crowd like Iron Wolf, Batman: The Ride, and the newest ride Superman: Ultimate Flight, but they lacked a good family ride. The park’s idea was to turn their Orlean’s Place into a new Mardi Gras themed section, and the new key attraction was Ragin Cajun. The new ride is a spinning mouse, which is a well-known product of Reverchon. Ragin Cajun will travel 1,378-feet of track with the cars spinning riders 360-degrees throughout the circuit. The ride will open with a slew of new rides in the Mardi Gras section, and will be Six Flags Great America’s thirteenth roller coaster track. The wonder of the spinning coaster is that no two rides are alike, so thrill seekers and families alike can enjoy this coaster over and over again. For the 2014 season, the ride was relocated to the newly created Mardi Gras section of Six Flags America.
Six Flags’s guests make their way to the new Mardi Gras section and find the newRagin Cajun. Once they have made their way to the loading platform, it’s into the spinning mouse cars sitting 4-abreast. The lap bar is secured and the car drifts out of the station. The car rounds a 90-degree turn and start the journey to the top of the 42-foot lift hill. Once at the top, the car is released from the chain and the fun starts. The car drifts down a small hill and rounds a sharp 90-degree turn. A straight stretch of track leads the car into the first sharp 180-degree turn. Riders are whipped around and pick up speed as they head down another straight stretch to the second sharp 180-degree turn. This repeats two more time, and then the car rounds a 90-degree turn and plummets down the first drop. The car crests the other side of the dip and goes around another 90-degree turn and into a straight stretch with a quick block brake section. Ahead lies yet another, you guessed it, 90-degree turn and a drop. The car flies down the drop and levels out at ground level. The car races along a stretch of track and then enters another section of 180-degree hairpin turns. This time, the car spins as the train navigates the turns. Once through the turns, riders scream into a wide 180-degree turn and the car head back towards the beginning of the ride. The ride drops down a small dip and rounds one more 180-degree turn before rolling into the final brakes.
