On August 29th, 2005 Hurricane Katrina decimated the city of New Orleans along with a vast area along the Gulf Coast. Six Flags New Orleans would never reopen its doors because the storm damage was so extensive, however many of the rides were still in place and salvageable. Magic Mountain’s Road Runner Express started service in New Orleans as Rex’s Rail Runner, and sat still built but not operating from 2005-2009. It was disassembled and moved to Magic Mountain where it opened as Road Runner Express in 2011. This Vekoma Junior Coaster model is themed to Road Runner and the Wile E. Coyote, but Six Flags did announce other plans for it including a superhero theme, and a Mr. Six theme during 2010.They ultimately settled on a Loony Tunes theme, and a location inside the Looney Tunes Adventure section of the park.
The ride experience begins when you climb into the ACME rocket powered train and pull down your lap bar. As you pull out of the station to your left you can see the layout of curvy track and the desert landscape created for the ride that includes; rock formations, TNT crates, cactus, and various traps set by the Wile E. Coyote. The train climbs the 27.9 foot tall booster wheel lift and drops in a banked turn that cuts back under the lift. The track rises and banks to the left and the track rises and falls. Racing close to the ground the train suddenly banks to the right spinning around a helix before the final turns returns the train to the station. Riders have escaped the Wile E. Coyote and are free to explore the park. |
