On May 25th, 2008, the new boys came to town. Screaming, laughing, and putting up their favorite "holiday" decorations to make the Gotham City Rails their own rails. When you enter Six Flags Great America, from every angle of the entrance of Orleans Place, you will see a giant gray looming building ahead. Inside this massive building contains 1213' of twisted rails. This ride is all fun in games and thrills, until somebody sees his face. Welcome to the show, The Dark Knight Coaster.
When you enter the ride, you come into a larger queue area that is a bit dark, but pretty normal for an old subway station. The friendly music being played on the TV's only makes you feel more calm. After entering the next room, the doors shut behind you. Immediately the GCN (Gotham Cable News) news channel is heard discussing the delay of trains and boat routes throughout the city, but should be back on track soon. A sudden interruption is made and switches over to Harvey Dent's press where he discusses his feelings of the Batman and how this city can be a better place without him. Harvey asks some questions and the video continues, until another abrupt interruption occurs. This time it isn't anything GCN, but, instead is the Joker. The lights dim and the network starts to crash as The Joker is now in control of the show. Laughs, screams, and the playing of old movies showing what he finds humorous starts to interest you, until everything goes black. The TV flicks on once again and the walls of the room you're in are covered in graffiti and The Joker's artwork. After the video is done playing, the alarms sound, and you head into a small hallway where you wait to hop aboard the train of your life. The security cameras are hacked so when you look at them, your face is something to laugh at. Dead rats hang from the ceiling and pipes, as you lurk your way to the station. When you come to the boarding station, you find a car waiting for you. You push down the harness and within a few seconds the ride is already off. You make an immediate right-hand turn and up the lift which ascends at great speeds, unlike most lift hills. You climb to the top and make a sudden quarter turn right then half turns right, left, right, left, right, and feels like it never ends as the scenery going by makes you cringe in fear--The guns and noises from The Joker's henchmen sounding as you pass. The train starts to gather speed, then makes a large turn around and begins slow. Before you get a breath it drops down a big dip and into another turn around. You take on two more small dips before you say "cheese" to the camera! However, don't get too happy because there are hissing water pipes right above your head just inches from hitting you. You come onto the final brakes and experience another small dip and a train coming right for you. You make it by and head back to the station where you will exit casually. The door opens and you see nothing but daylight and freedom again. You look at your picture and wonder how you could even make that face on such a small ride. However, this small ride is no laughing matter. So can you take on the dozens of laughing, joking men awaiting your visitation? Ride it at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL, and "Don't be so serious!" |
