Specific Type: Shuttle Coaster

Ferrari, just the name evokes so much; history, quality, excitement, passion, prestige, and the list could go on forever. The name carries so much weight, Ferrari, say it with me, Ferrari. Did the hairs on the back of your neck just stand up? You aren’t alone, and the first Ferrari branded theme park was opened up in Abu Dhabi and has many world records. The most important record is of course for the world’s fastest roller coaster called Formula Rossa, an Intamin hydraulic launch coaster that almost achieves 150 MPH. The park is almost entirely indoor to protect their guests from the strong Emirates sun and was built inside the world's largest space frame covering 86,000 square meters.
In March 2017 Ferrari World opened its fourth coaster called Turbo Tracks. The coaster is an Intamin shuttle coaster that was built on a bridge that goes over the theme park’s floor and has a tunnel that sends the ride out through the central glass funnel in the center of the structure. The ride experience begins as the riders board one of two shuttle cars. The station is built with a sliding track so they can load and unload while the other car is being used. Each car has four rows and has three seats per row. The ride rockets out of the station at 63.4 MPH flying over the heads of guest in the park. The car glides over an airtime hill and enter a tunnel that leads the track through the glass funnel. The car soars outside into the hot desert sun, and ascends a twisted spike 210 feet into the air. The spike is right in the center of the iconic space frame and this addition drastically changes the already dramatic skyline. Riders reach the top and pause for a moment. Then gravity’s grip brings it backwards back down to earth and inside. The airtime hill in reverse becomes part of the brakes and delivers the car back to the station where the track slides back to allow the “test drivers” to depart. Now if you want to ride again with a different experience you can do that as the first row faces forwards and the rear row faces backwards. The two center rows face each other so six riders ride forward facing and six face backwards. This speed machine fits right in at Ferrari World’s speed focused theme park. |
