Adventureland has become a new blend of classic coasters and new innovative coasters all with a special twist. From their classic 70’s era wooden coaster, Tornado, to their new innovative Monster, with a full lighting package mixed with high intensity thrills, this park has the perfect blend of old and new coasters. Even though this park might seem like the usual amusement park, Adventureland has a special coaster that differs from all the rest. This Custom Coaster International , Inc. coaster takes on a different approach from the classic wooden coaster design. Yes, Underground at Adventureland truly is an inside the box coaster being a fully enclosed coaster mixed with the classic dark ride elements. This coaster has been filling dark ride thrills for all enthusiasts since 1996 and has yet to stop. Do you dare to enter the dark caves of Underground?
Underground starts with a queue line that is reminiscent of western mines. Prior to entering the respective coaster seats, riders first get an intro on the story behind Underground before being corralled into the coaster cars. Starting off, riders make a right turn into darkness, meandering into the depths of the Underground. The first scene is a scene of a few miners digging deep beneath the earth next to a mine shaft. Continuing through and gaining speed, Underground then shows riders a scene of a man dealing with a bucking donkey as it rises and falls in retaliation to being subdued. Riders then meander into a strobe lit area with moving walls simulating a cave in, creating a disorientating effect on the dark ride coaster. Continuing on, riders then enter a cavern bypassing another coaster portion, then going up the lift hill. At the top of the lift hill, a bright light shines with a sound of a train whistle, as riders make a right turn veering from the effect. Riders then enter a straight portion, then another right passing a scene with a miner stuck in a closed mine shaft only holding a lamp. Making another left, riders then see an apparition of a skeleton on the wall, creating a distraction into the next turn and into the first drop. The first drop is not large, however is a dip next to a waterfall in the cavern. Following this another turn leads into another lift hill into an effect of the mine collapsing yet again as the ceiling, and walls sway simulating a cave in. Through another turn, riders see a scene with a skeleton, and a cowboy that turns into a skeleton, acting like an apparition in the ghostly mines. Creating more of a ghostly atmosphere, the next scene shows a ghostly miner sitting on a gold payload laughing dastardly at riders. This scene leads into a few meandering turns and finally back into the station. This blend of a dark ride and coaster suits the attraction well as it uses the dark ride portion to perpetuate the story, and the coaster portion to create thrills and speed through the attraction. So the next time that you are in Adventureland, climb aboard this dark coaster to experience what really happens….Underground. |
