Wild West Express
Specific Type: Windstorm
|
Wild West Express started out at Old Town, a small park in Florida in 1997, called Windstorm but was closed and disassembled in 2014. For 2015 it was relocated and opened in Adventure Park USA in Maryland and is now known as Wild West Express. This ride was manufactured by Zamperla, and is no longer offered as a standard ride, this is the only example of what is referred to as a Windstorm layout. The ride layout is very similar to S.D.C.’s hurricane model, and features similar trains.
Cowboys and cowgirls enter the station and load into the bright yellow train. The train has three cars with two rows of two for a total of twelve riders. Once the lap bars are locked and checked the train is dispatched out of the station. Tires propel the train slightly to the right where it lines up with the lift hill and a chain takes over hoisting the coaster to its maximum height of 53 feet. At the top of the lift riders get a brief look over the minigolf course as the track turns around to the left, then the track banks and drops. The drop descends about halfway to the ground before climbing back up into an airtime hill. The train turns around a banked turnaround on the opposite side of the layout and dives again, this time all the way to the ground. The track banks and rises bringing the train skyward only to bank heavily around as it drops and completes a U-turn. The train rises again and sets up riders for a descending helix, the track straightens out and sends riders to the far side of the layout for another helix, skimming the ground. When the track levels out the train enters the brake run and the riders are returned for the station. So do you saddle up and take another ride or are you yellow? |
