Specific Type: Children's Roller Coaster
|
Woodstock Express was installed at California’s Great America in 1987 by Intamin AG. Like many other long standing coasters in the Cedar Fair chain this one has gone through different themes and names as the ownership and management of the park has changed over several time. However before that it was installed in 1984 at Splashtown Water Park in Springs, TX. Ironically it was named Scooby Doo, a name originally used by the three wooden Woodstock Express roller coasters in the Cedar Fair chain. When it was relocated to California in 1987 it was themed to the Smurfs and the name was Blue Streak until 1995. In the spring of 1995 the named changed to Green Slime Mine Car to mirror a popular element from Nickelodeon shows at that time. This theme lasted until 2003 when the coaster was repainted and named Rugrats Runaway Reptar. After Cedar Fair acquired the park from Paramount they no longer had the licence to use Nickelodeon theming, so Nickelodeon Central became Camp Snoopy and in 2010 the ride was rethemed again this time to its current state as Woodstock Express.
When riders enter the station for this children’s roller coaster they are greeted by a single train with four cars. The cars have four seats in two rows each, the train can accommodate up to 16 riders. Once the train is dispatched from the station it meanders slowly around a left hand curve to line up with the 13 foot tall lift hill. The ride glides down the main drop and cuts under a section of track. The track ascends up into a turn around, and then starts to bank and drop to the left. It builds up speed into a helix, and exits into a bunny hop, and then it veers slightly into another bunny hop. One last dip brings the train back to the brake run and station. Returning the youngest thrill seekers to Camp Snoopy. |
