In the middle of Indiana lies a town that most people have never heard of. In that town, sits an amusement park that can make the statement " There's more than corn in Indiana".

In 1926, Earl Spackman opened a little lakeside getaway, Ideal Beach, on banks of LakeShafer. The Ideal Beach of then, has become the Indiana Beach of today. The name change came about in 1950 when Tom Spackman , Earl Spackman's son wanted to bring more people to the park. 1971 started a new era for the beach with the opening of their first roller coaster, The Galaxi. The water park then opened in 1987, which brought in a whole new group of rides and dynamic to the park . On May 27, 1994 Indiana Beach was finally out on the map with the first wooden coaster in the park, and the first new wooden roller coaster in the state in 50 years. Hoosier Hurricane is built across the water with high speeds, quick drops, and thrills for all to enjoy. In 2001 they built their second wooden roller coaster, the Cornball Express. With air time galore, a tight layout, and great drops, this ride is a cant miss. Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain opened in 2002, when it took over the place of the original mine ride in the same spot. In 2008, The Spackman family sold the park and their adjacent campgrounds to Morgan RV Company for an undisclosed amount. This new company was going to take over, and make sure thrills weren't done being added. In 2008 the steel coaster, Steel Hawg opened, with something Indiana hasn't seen in many years, a roller coaster with not only two inversions, but also a very steep drop. With six coasters of different sizes and thrill levels, this park has something for everyone.

As a born and raised Hoosier this park holds a special place in my heart. The park doesn't try to be more than what it is, a place for family fun for everyone . So if you enjoy wooden coasters, and want to walk through Dr. Frankenstein Haunted Castle an awarded winning attraction. Then Indiana Beach is waiting for you to enjoy all that it offers.
