Mt. Olympus Water & Theme ParkLocation: Wisconsin Dells, WI
|
When one hears the name Mount Olympus, the thought of Greece comes to mind. Greek gods and mythical creatures are major components of the mountain, but this is not your ordinary Mount Olympus. Here at COASTER-net.com we are speaking of the Mt Olympus Water and Theme Park situated in the Wisconsin Dells. The theme park is actually four separate areas that all include something different and unique for the whole family. The park has an indoor waterpark and an indoor theme park that stays open all year round. The park also includes and outdoor water park and an outdoor theme park.
In 1975, Nick Laskaris decided that the Wisconsin Dells was in need of entertainment in the form of Go-Kart tracks and this is where it all began. Laskaris built Goofy Karts and operated that for five years on the parkway in Wisconsin Dells. His lease ran out in 1980 and he left the property and opened up a new Go-kart track next to his family’s hot dog stand. He called this new area the Big Chief Karts. In 1997, he purchased 27 acres of land on the parkway and expanded his entertainment. He built three roller coasters and also put in multiple go-kart tracks on the property. In 1999, Laskaris bought the 25 acre Crazy King Ludwig's Amusement Park and merged it with everything that he had already built. In 2004, the park merged with Treasure Island Waterpark Resort and changed their name to Big Chief’s Mount Olympus Theme Park. The park gained a blue and white Greek theme and over the past ten years has turned into a multi-functioning theme park and resort complete with hotels. Mount Olympus consists of three wooden roller coasters known as Zeus, Cyclops, and Pegasus. The fourth roller coaster is the famous Hades coaster which was just transformed into one of the first wooden roller coasters to have an inversion. The new ride was renovated in 2013 and opened under the new name of Hades 360. The coaster also has the longest underground tunnel on a ride in the world. The ride also switched trains to the new Timberliner series from Gravity Group so that it could do the barrel roll. All of these coasters are part of the outdoor theme park called Zeus’ Playground. There is one coaster inside of the Parthenon. This is a crazy mouse coaster called Opa. The park is full of attractions like multiple Go-Kart tracks, and arcade, batting cages and your usual carnival rides. One of the main attractions at the park is the indoor water park called Medusa and the Neptune outdoor water park with multiple slides and contraptions. If you plan to travel to the northern part of the country and are looking for something to do for a weekend, definitely take a look at this resort. The Wisconsin Dells is a beautiful part of the country and is only made better by this extremely popular resort. |
