Idaho can be known for a lot more than just growing potatoes. You can ask guests who attend Silverwood Theme Park and they can tell you how to really have an enjoyable time in the city of Athol. Silverwood Theme Park is located just 47 miles from Spokane, Washignton and has been open since 1988. The park was opened and is still operated by Gary Norton.
Gary Norton opened the park on what used to be an airstrip from 1973 to 1988. The lasnd used to have other attractions and even kid’s areas prior to Norton and the place was called The Henley Aerodome. Each and every year since Norton opened up the park in 1988, he has added multiple shows and attractions. The main attraction when the park was first opened was the steam engine train that took guests on a 30 minute tour of the property. Today the park is filled with carnival rides, modern flat rides, and tons of shows and stalls serving up some great food. In 2003, the park added a waterpark that was included with the admission to the park called Boulder Beach. This attracted many visitors and raised the attendance to its highest levels ever. In 1009, the park started their own Halloween event called Scarywood. Today the park is the largest in the Northwest and has 65 unique rides and attractions for all ages. There are magnificent thrill rides and roller coasters including Tremors and Timber Terror which are two classic wooden coasters. Aftershock and Corkscrew are the two steel looping coasters and in 2013 the park opened up a one of a kind swinging pendulum ride. As you can see there is a little bit of everything for you in Idaho and the next time you are crunching down on a french fry, remember to stop in to Silverwood for the time of your life. |
