I just came back from Hersheypark, and I was blown away, by not the rides but the new coaster coming to the park next year: Skyrush. I arrived at the park with only 12 minutes (get it?) to spare for the announcement. Entertainment happened to be the Hersheypark Band and Flash Mob. Both were really awesome, except I wish I had gotten a better view of the flash mob. When 12:12 finally arrived, the park's spokesperson said that this was not a typical major announcement for Hershey. She said that what they usually do is tell a small number of the media who then give the word out to the public. The reason they didn’t do it this year is because, according to the spokeswoman, it was too big an announcement for that. Next they showed a video of them "streaming" live where park guests were asked what they thought Hersheypark will build next year. What came out of it were some interesting answers like, "Something related to Harry Potter" and "Another Merry-Go-Round." The one that I knew was fake came from the GM of Hersheypark himself, "A really, really big slushy machine." *facepalm* Then they showed a No Limits simulation of the coaster with the trains that are going to be used. They are like no other; two seats with a floor on top of the car, and then one to each side, like a wingwalker. The ride won’t be too similar to I305 but more like Expedition Geforce, although the airtime hills aren't too terribly huge. After the video was done, the name was announced, Skyrush. I thought the name was original, and I am happy that it isn't Skyhawk or anything "-hawk" for that matter. They uncovered the sign for the attraction, and it showed not only Skyrush but also the wait time, which is approximately 298 days from today. Those 298 days might be a blur, or in slow-motion. Either way, I will be following the progress for the ride and will “rush” there opening day for the attraction in 2012. |
