Deep in the heart of the South, there is a jewel of a theme park waiting for guests to soak up all of the fun. Located in Valdosta, Georgia, Wild Adventures is a park that is just right for everyone. The park includes roller coasters, flat rides, shows, entertainment, and even a waterpark to cool you off on those hot southern days. The park is owned and operated by Herschend Family Entertainment and is one of the baby theme parks in the country.
Wild Adventures started off as a small petting zoo on some farm land that was purchased by Kent Beuscher in 1996. Beuscher wanted the park to be more and by 1998, he was bringing in rides and attractions and growing the park at a rapid pace. The park quickly became one of the top independent parks in the country and attendance was growing each year the park was open. In 2003, a water park was added next door. Adventure Parks, which was held by Beuscher began to have problems in 2004 with the purchase of Cypress Gardens in Florida and in 2006, they filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy for some help. In 2007, the park was put up for sale and Herschend Family Entertainment bought the park for over $34 million. With new ownership came a new direction for the park as many of the rides that were not operating were moved or taken out and an emphasis on shows and new attractions was put in their place. Today the park has eight roller coasters that include a classic woodie called Cheetah and a SLC called Twisted Typhoon. The park also features a nice collection of flat rides, a great water park, and shops and shows placed throughout the park. Next time you are in the Peach state, make sure and stop by Wild Adventures where you can learn to tame your wild side. |
