A new amusement park is in the works, just a few hours from the Capital Region, in the Hudson Valley: LEGOLAND NY Resort. It's being built in Goshen, NY and is scheduled to open on July 4, 2020. It's the 9th LEGOLAND theme park in the world, and only the 3rd in the United States. "Orange County here in the Hudson Valley is such an amazing tourist destination. To help celebrate their 150th anniversary, Cedar Point is looking for the best bands from all over to join their Bands in Residence program. Chosen bands will be given the opportunity to share their music with the millions of guests who'll visit the park throughout the season. Bands will be asked to perform multiple short sets each day for one week at one of Cedar Point's live entertainment venues. Months after Disneyland opened the biggest expansion in its history, the Anaheim theme park raised ticket prices Tuesday, pushing the cost of some one-day passes above $200 for the first time. Prices of annual passes and the digital MaxPass climbed too. Under a new five-tier pricing scheme that charges more for days when demand is highest, one-day ticket prices rose as much as 5%. For the lowest-demand days — such as Tuesdays and Wednesdays in March — a one-day ticket to visit either Disneyland or Disney’s neighboring California Adventure Park stayed unchanged at $104. Six Flags Over Texas on Monday announced its newest water roller-coaster, Aquaman: Power Wave, the first of its kind in North America. The entertainment park said "the first piece of track laid down at the ride site, this first-of-its-kind, in North America, ride." Six Flags says the ride will launch riders backwards and forwards, "straight up colossal 148 feet twin track towers and then send them plunging straight down, screaming across more than 700 feet of track before hurtling at 63 miles per hour towards the ultimate massive splash down." Kennywood Park's general manager has stepped down, Kennywood spokesman Nick Paradise confirmed. Jerome Gibas has stepped down as general manager of the park. Kennywood's spokesman did not say why he stepped down. Palace Entertainment Vice President of Theme Parks Rick Stammel will serve as interim general manager while a nationwide search is conducted for a permanent replacement, Palace Entertainment Chief Operating Officer John Reilly confirmed. Fast Lane is a special ticket upgrade at Cedar Point that allows thrill seekers the opportunity to skip the line at some of the park’s most popular rides. Tucked away in the northeast corner of Irondequoit is a piece of American history. The Jack Rabbit, a wooden roller coaster at Seabreeze Amusement park, turns 100 years old this year. Built in 1920, the Jack Rabbit is the nation’s oldest continuously operating roller coaster, according to Seabreeze officials. Additionally, it’s tied for fourth place in the world for the same category, according to the National Amusement Park Historical Association. When it opened a century ago, the Jack Rabbit was the fastest coaster in the world. In 2010, the thrill ride was included in a CBS News list of the five best roller coasters in the country. Disney announced Thursday that reservations will open later this year for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a two-day, two-night, all-immersive vacation simulating life in the "Star Wars" universe. Think cruise but, you know, far, far away. "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a completely new type of experience," said Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer for Walt Disney Imagineering, in a Disney blog post. "You're going to live onboard a star cruiser...and you can get wrapped up in the larger Star Wars story." Though reservations are set to begin this year, the actual experience won't open until 2021, at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. FULL STORY
