One person has died and another six were injured when a ride malfunctioned at the Ohio State Fair, according to CBS affiliate WBNS-TV, citing the Columbus Division of Fire. The station adds that five of the injured are listed in critical condition. The last was in stable condition. Officials with the Ohio Department of Agriculture identified the ride as the "Fireball" (a swinging claw ride).

Some of the victims were thrown from the ride, Columbus Battalion Chief Steve Martin said. Wednesday evening Ohio Gov. John Kasich released a statement on Twitter saying that he is "terribly saddened by this accdent, by this loss of life and that people were injured."

Dragon Challenge Closing for a New Harry Potter Ride Experience

ORLANDO. FL

Confirming at long last what everyone has suspected for the past two-and-a-half years, Universal has today announced that Dragon Challenge will be closing down on Tuesday, September 5 in order to make room for a brand-new Harry Potter attraction.
Although Universal didn’t offer much in the way of specifics for the replacement ride, it did provide some rather vague – though still incredibly exciting – details: it’ll be a “highly-themed” roller coaster that will, as expected, take us into a different corner of the wizarding world, where we’ll encounter some of our “favorite characters and creatures.” Interestingly enough, the company refers to the attraction as both a thrill andfamily-friendly ride, which leads us to believe that it might provide an experience not unlike Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts – even though it’s supposed to be unlike anything Universal has ever done before. Finally, there’s the little tidbit that the new coaster will open in 2019 (when many of Disney’s new additions to Walt Disney World Resort will be up and running, incidentally).

RMC Working On 7 Projects For Next Season

HAYDEN, ID

Rocky Mountain Fans rejoice!  A new profile by a local news station points to a very busy 2017 for the popular roller coaster manufacturer.  While the story does not say all these projects will open in 2017, they do say that they have 7 different projects being worked on right now, with one of them being shipped to Japan.

So even if that's 6 new projects for North America, that leaves 4 new rides that we're not yet aware of (when you remove the two fairly obvious Cedar Fair projects).  Of course there could be rides for Europe or perhaps their first in booming China, we don't know quite yet.  But it is promising news nonetheless.

ORLANDO, FL

Skyline Attractions has altered the landscape of thrill rides with its latest scream maker- Skywarp. As part of the company’s third anniversary, Skyline is excited to announce the sale of their first of many Skywarps, which will make its public debut in the summer of 2018. This exciting experience offers 32 passengers a unique journey as they board the competing ride vehicles. The train begins rocking back and forth, building up to full speed before completing several thrilling forward and reverse rotations through the twin Immelmann inversions.

The unique concept was first shown to the world at the 2016 IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando, Florida. This annual event is the world’s largest showcase of rides and Skywarp was one of the most unique concepts displayed. This innovative attraction combines the speed, inversions, and capacity of a big coaster with a fraction of the necessary investment needed. The clever design of Skywarp allows it to deliver the thrills a modern rider expects, with the reliability, ease of maintenance, and ultra-compact footprint that fits in nearly any park.
