Story Land’s Newest Coaster: Roar-O-Saurus

11/30/2013

This off-season Story Land Park will receive a major component of their brand new dinosaur-themed area in the park, Roar-O-Saurus- a wooden roller coaster uniquely built and designed for Story Land by The Gravity Group LLC in Ohio. Roar-O-Saurus will also be one of the only kind of wooden roller coasters in the area, according to The Conway Daily Sun.

The wooden roller coaster will be a colorful 12 passenger train led by Rory “a little dino with a big roar!” Roar-O-Saurus will feature a 40 foot drop, run on 1,242 feet of track, and will feature 12 airtime elements. "This unique wooden coaster will provide children of all ages the experience and memory of riding their first 'big' coaster with mom or dad, or vice versa," said Story Land's general manager Eric Dziedzic.

The family wooden coaster will debut in the park just in time for the park’s 60th anniversary, and is expected to bring in the new dinosaur theme at Story Land. "Our niche in the theme park industry has always been young families with children 2-12. Our new coaster will expand that demographic slightly and add to the family memories created here in the Land Where Fantasy Lives."

Details Surface on Verrückt, The Worlds Tallest, Fastest Water Slide

2014 gets better and better for water park enthusiasts as a new world record breaking slide has been announced. Verrückt, German for insane, is the latest step in Schlitterbahn’s history, being the tallest and fastest water slide to date. “We have always been family friendly, but this will attract those adrenaline junkies who are always looking for that next biggest, coolest thrill,” Layne Pitcher, the park’s Director of Marketing and Sales, states. Schlitterbahn is keeping the height of the slide secret until an official ceremony this spring but it has been revealed that you will need to climb 264 stairs to the top of the slide.

The water slide itself is a water coaster, with an initial drop, which flares out into a 5 story hill. Verrückt uses new technology was used for the second hill, says the company, which then slides into the splash zone where the tubes are taken, and sent up the conveyor system to the next riders. The slide rafts will be 4 seat rafts. “At Schlitterbahn we love rides that encourage people to share the experience,” said in the company’s fact sheet. In a company news release, Jeff Henry, a Schlitterbahn co-owner, states that Verrückt will be a game changer. Construction of Verrückt has already begun. The first drop is already visible with other pieces of the slide being assembled. It will be finishing out this phase soon to undergo a rigorous testing stage. “Safety is paramount to us,” Pitcher states, “We want to provide a thrilling ride, but safety comes first.” The slide is set to open in spring of 2014.
