SIOUX FALLS, SD

Wild Water West is pushing back its plans to open up a large roller coaster by the end of the summer.
Work on the roller coaster won't start until the fall at the earliest, director of operations Brian Rehnke told the Argus Leader.
Disruptions to the industry caused by the coronavirus were a major factor, Rehnke said.
"(The coronavirus hit) exactly when we were signing contracts," he said. "The manufacturer even had to do some furloughs and things. We want to responsibility get through the summer as good as we can and pick up that project in the fall."
The original plan was to start construction in April and open by August for late-summer use.

Imagine going through theme park security without having to open all your bags and allowing a security guard to look through your things, or not even having to put your bags into an x-ray machine. That may be the case soon at some Six Flags parks.
As attractions begin reopening after their coronavirus closures, theme parks are reevaluating the security screenings their guests go through in light of social distancing measures, and Anil Chitkara’s company, Evolv Technology, has introduced an innovative touch-free system Six Flags recently featured in a video highlighting their parks’ new safety procedures.

Dollywood Is Reopening ‘Soon’—Until Then, Explore The Park Virtually And Make Its Signature Food At Home

PIGEON FORGE, TN

In the past two weeks, all eyes have been on reopening announcements. Earlier this week, Spain announced it would reopen its borders in July, and Greece has moved its reopening from July 1 to June 15. Cyprus has even announced it will cover the vacation costs of anyone who contracts Covid-19 while visiting the country.
For a certain group, no announcements have been more hotly anticipated than the reopening of theme parks. Universal Orlando announced last week that it would open to the public on June 5, and Walt Disney World released its opening dates—July 11 for Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, and July 15 for Epcot and Hollywood Studios—just yesterday. (The Disney fervor was so dramatic that eager vacationers crashed the park’s reservation system, and the company then put a temporary hold on future bookings for hotels, tickets and restaurant reservations.)

Cedar Fair Expands Its Suite of Mobile Apps to Promote a Healthy, Smart and Fun-Filled Guest Experience When Parks Reopen

5/28/2020

Picture
SANDUSKY, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cedar Fair Entertainment Company (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and immersive entertainment, is adding new technology and leveraging its existing mobile app capabilities to enable a safe and efficient park reopening experience for its guests and associates.
Cedar Fair CEO Richard Zimmerman said, “The safety of our guests and associates has always been, and will always be, our highest priority. I’m pleased that our internal health and safety experts, as well as state and local government officials, have informed the development and implementation of these technology enhancements which, when combined with our other in-park safety procedures being implemented, should help renew the public’s confidence when visiting our parks. Our more robust suite of mobile technologies not only strengthens the safety measures recommended by health officials, but also offers exciting, guest-friendly alternatives that could very well enhance the overall guest experience for the long term,” said Zimmerman.
The company will implement several technology enhancements focused on key aspects throughout the guest visit, from planning and preparing for an outing at the park, to leaving for the day. Changes will allow the parks to open with capacity limitations and processes in compliance with state and local health guidelines, while enhancing the guest experience overall. Key aspects include:
Planning and preparation –
  • Guests can make their required reservations online or through the mobile app, reserving a specific day and time to visit the park based upon capacity availability. The guest will receive a time-bound entry voucher, which will automatically appear in the guest’s mobile app when they are logged in.
  • Guests who have purchased a season pass will be able to process their passes through the website or mobile app, rather than visiting the pass processing center within the park.
  • Park mobile apps and websites will be enhanced with thorough information to prepare guests for changes they will see at the parks.
Arrival and entry –
  • Upon arrival, the guest’s reservation will be confirmed and their ticket / season pass scanned.
  • All guests entering the parks will be required to complete an initial health check; guests with the park’s mobile app can complete most aspects of the health questionnaire online prior to visiting.
  • Targeted messages delivered through the mobile app will remind guests of new processes and procedures; in addition, the app will provide real time alerts regarding any capacity constraints that may affect their visit.
Enjoying the park –
  • Enhanced cashless payment methods are being introduced to reduce touchpoints and expenses, as well as improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Mobile food ordering is being expanded to at least four parks in 2020 to improve guest service and eliminate long lines at selected food locations.
  • The mobile app’s mapping and wayfinding modules, which already allow guests to easily find things like restrooms and phone charging stations, are being leveraged to monitor potential overcrowding in various areas of the park throughout the day; this will help determine where to deploy crowd control measures and enable appropriate social distancing. These modules will also direct guests to the closest hand sanitizing stations.
Exiting the park –
  • Enhanced guest surveys will provide the park with firsthand feedback about their visit and the updated protocols and processes for continuous improvement.
  • Location services on the mobile app will be able to help manage guest flow and maximize park capacity without sacrificing safety.
Cedar Fair continues its work with state and local authorities and will advise the public on definitive park opening dates as they become known.

Roller coaster fans in Japan can finally hop back on their favorites for some thrill-seeking fun and entertainment, but there's a major caveat ... they better not enjoy it too much and let out a cheer or a scream.
That's right ... you must be THIS quiet to ride the rides at the newly opened amusement parks in the country, according to a set of guidelines to ensure everyone's safety amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Japan's reopening the parks after lifting its state of emergency this week, and the new rules mostly make sense -- temperature checks upon entry, face masks required, social distancing and sanitizing, etc.

HERSHEY, PA

As Dauphin County prepares to enter the yellow phase of Governor Tom Wolf’s coronavirus pandemic shutdown, some businesses will be allowed to reopen as of May 29.
But when it comes to Derry Township’s beloved amusement park, a bit of a longer wait is still in store.
Hersheypark, like all amusement parks in Pennsylvania, will only be allowed to reopen when their respective counties enter the green phase of the reopening plan. And as the metrics for reaching the green phase are determined by the number of new coronavirus infections in each county, the staff of Hersheypark has no choice but to wait for those numbers to drop.

The developer behind the Nickelodeon Universe theme parks is delinquent on its mortgages and seeking a government bailout as it looks to manage its debts, according to financial reports.

Triple Five Group, which owns the Nickelodeon Universe parks at its Mall of America and the new American Dream mall in New Jersey, has missed the last two monthly payments on its $1.4 billion mortgage for the Mall of America property. The Minneapolis-area mall - the biggest in the United States - has been closed since March 17, though it is scheduled to reopen on June 1. The company is asking the state of Minnesota for a forgivable loan to help it make its debt payments.
