It's already been a year since Greater Cincinnati said goodbye to Kings Island's Vortex roller coaster, a crowd favorite since 1987. After 33 seasons, the iconic Kings Island ride retired at the end of last season. The roller coaster debuted April 11, 1987. While it remained popular, the ride had simply reached the end of its service life, officials with the Mason, Ohio, theme park said last year. FULL STORY

Santa Cruz boardwalk first California amusement park planning to reopen under state guidelines10/28/2020 California’s oldest amusement park is preparing to become the first amusement park to reopen under the state’s new COVID-19 health and safety guidelines following a seven-month coronavirus closure.
The 1907 Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk plans to reopen in November after Santa Cruz County moved into the orange/moderate tier 3 risk level under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. “We are making plans, but nothing is set in stone yet,” Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Marq Lipton said. “We don’t have an opening date yet. A guy is threatening to jump off the very top of a roller coaster in San Diego ... and authorities have been unsuccessful thus far in talking him down. This is happening right now at what appears to be Belmont Park, atop the Giant Dipper attraction -- also known as the Mission Beach Roller Coaster. Universal Orlando’s announced new theme park, Epic Universe, was put on hold over the summer due to the pandemic. FULL STORY A car from the former Rocky Springs Park Jack Rabbit roller coaster in Lancaster County, and a restored model of the Knoebels Phoenix roller coaster have been donated to the National Roller Coaster Museum in Texas.
According to the museum, the Jack Rabbit roller coaster was at Rocky Springs Park in West Lampeter Township from 1918 until 1927. The car was donated by Jim Bowen and John Hayek of the American Coaster Enthusiasts. FULL STORY DOSWEL, VA
The general manager of Kings Dominion in Hanover County is planning to retire after nearly a half-century with the theme park and its parent company.Tony Johnson announced Tuesday that he will retire in January from Kings Dominion, which is one of Virginia’s biggest tourist attractions in a typical year. One of the historic steam engines of the Dollywood Express train caught fire over the weekend. A Dollywood spokesperson said Engine 70 was in a maintenance area about 8 p.m. Sunday when a small fire started from grease on the left side of the engine.
