It has been nearly six months since the installation of the canopy framework on TRON Lightcycle / Run started. With even more canopy work completed in January, we can report today that the temporary supports for this framework are now being dismantled. The temporary supports help to maintain the integrity of the canopy during its construction. You can see they’re no longer touching the canopy in the photos below. FULL STORY

Just when we thought VelociCoaster couldn’t get any more intense, Universal has added fire to the entrance to the attraction. For those who may not know, VelociCoaster is Universal Orlando Resort’s latest upcoming attraction. The roller coaster will feature high thrills, high G-force, as well as, purportedly, the fastest roller coaster launch in the state of Florida. This is a milestone year at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana. The beloved amusement park is celebrating its 75th anniversary and they're looking for your help in doing it. The park wants to read your favorite stories through the years and see your most cherished Holiday World and Splashin' Safari photos and memories. I have been going to Holiday World for forty years. Truly. Of course, when I first started going the park was called Santa Claus Land. I have a couple of favorite memories. I remember going to the park with my grandparents shortly after Frightful Falls opened to the public in 1984. By then, the park had changes its name to Holiday World. At the time, we were huge fans of Opryland, which had that amazing log ride Flume Zoom. So, we were pumped Holiday World was getting a log ride of its own. I still remember my very first ride on it. Theme parks have been hardest hit among Disney’s businesses. At a conference call to talk over the media giant’s latest earnings, execs said flagship Disneyland and Disneyland Paris likely will not open during the current quarter that ends in March, although Hong Kong Disneyland might. Neither Chapek nor CFO Christine McCarthy hazarded a guess on a Disneyland opening date. Cedar Point says it’s instituting a new age limit for its employee housing. Starting with this coming season, employees aged 30 and older will not be allowed to live in employee housing. Park spokesman Tony Clark said housing will only be for employees aged 18-29. “With many of the park’s winter operations on pause due to COVID-19, the opportunity arose to give our housing program a thorough review,” Clark said. “As a result, the housing eligibility age was changed to accommodate increased housing availability for the many college students who join us to work each summer.” FULL STORY HERSHEY, PA
The staff at Hersheypark has announced the start date for the amusement park’s 115th season. According to a press release, the park will open for the season on April 2. “Kicking off a Hersheypark Happy year on April 2, 2021, Hersheypark will be open most weekends in April and May with daily operations from Memorial Day to Labor Day followed by September weekends,” the press release said. “The Park will also be open in October for select Hersheypark In The Dark weekends and select dates over six weeks in November and December for the Hersheypark Christmas Candylane seasonal event.” FULL STORY MASON, OH

boardwalk landmark pirate ship is all but gone while the rides it towered over are safe, following a four-alarm fire in the Playland Castaway Cove arcade building on Saturday. In addition to the larger-than life ship installation with its enormous pirate and parrot, the arcade and three business offices had suffered sizable damage as of Sunday. The fire also ripped through Hamburger Construction Company, Dairy Queen and BrumeJuice, according to Brian Hartley, Vice President of Playland Castaway Cove. Despite the situation, amusement park operators have said they will be open come Spring. FULL STORY |
