It’s still unclear when — or even if — Cedar Point and other Cedar Fair parks will open this year. But company executives gave a glimpse into what the parks might look like when they do reopen. Cedar Fair CEO Richard Zimmerman outlined several likely changes in a first-quarter earnings call with analysts Wednesday. Among the possibilities: FULL STORY Few industries are founded on fantasy as much as theme parks. Their rides use technical wizardry to immerse guests in alien environments, their landscapes are out of this world and some of the food in their restaurants wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi film. The coronavirus is bringing them back down to earth.
Instead of waiting for guests to be vaccinated, parks around the world are now wrestling with the challenge of integrating practical procedures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in their escapist surroundings. It could be a whole new world for guests. FULL STORY HERSHEY, PA

Judging by a recent social media post, the park’s much-anticipated 15th roller coaster, Candymonium, is closer to completion. On Tuesday, the park shared a video of the coater’s first test ride. It’s been a month and a half since our last update, and the wonderful Bioreconstruct has taken to the skies over Universal Orlando once again to bring us some beautiful aerial photography. The photos below show the progress for a few of the projects going on in the Jurassic Park area of Islands of Adventure, including the still yet-to-be announced massive roller coaster being built. It looks like all, (or pretty close to all,) of the coaster’s footings have been installed. Steel is going up for the coaster’s train maintenance building. FULL STORY (PHOTOS) Disney announced plans to reopen Shanghai Disneyland after a three-month coronavirus closure as the company revealed its theme park division absorbed a $1 billion loss as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that has shuttered all of its parks around the globe.
Disney’s dependence on big crowds has made the Burbank company’s sprawling empire of theme parks, hotels, restaurants, shops, movie studios, theatrical shows, cruise ships and sports networks particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic. FULL STORY When the Six Flags theme parks reopen (whenever that is), you will need to make a reservation in advance in order to enter the park.
That's the news today from announcements posted to each park's operating hours pages. As the announcement notes, the reservation requirement applies to members and season pass holders, so this isn't just a new system for selling date-specific tickets. Reservations will be made via an as-yet-unlaunched online system. FULL STORY ERIE, PA
Trespassers at Waldameer were accused of causing damage to the water park property. Last month, skateboarders broke into Waldameer riding their boards on the water park tubes chipping and scratching the fiberglass. Vice President of Operations at Waldameer explained the situation. “We did have some visitors that hopped our fences in the water park from out of state that were trespassing among other things and were taking the course of the action that we feel necessary to deal with that,” said Brian Gorman, Vice President of Operations at Waldameer. FULL STORY Theme parks are famous for staying open through thick and thin. Often earthquakes don’t stop their Ferris wheels from turning and their decorations get fastened down during hurricanes so that the show can go on. However they have met their match in the coronavirus.
Parks around the world, which had previously only been closed for a matter of days, have been shuttered for more than a month to prevent the spread of the deadly disease. Their ornate iron gates are closed for the foreseeable future and it will take more than the wave of a magic wand to get them to swing open again. FULL STORY HERSHEY, PA
