Great Coasters International seeks patent for 'Titan Track'

Great Coasters International in Northumberland County is prepared to introduce the newest advancement in steel tracks for both wooden and steel coasters.
Owner Clair Hain Jr. said a patent application has been filed for Titan Track through the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The company, located on Route 890 about six miles from Sunbury, also won the 2020 Supplier of the Year award from Amusement Today.
“I’m always looking for something new and exciting,” said Hain. “You never know what can happen.”

Here is an exclusive sneak peek of two of our ride engineers as they prep some of EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind vehicles at our warehouse in Florida. If you look closely at the colorful paint design on the vehicles (called coaches in roller coaster engineering parlance), each one is unique with different wear patterns and impact marks. Imagineers were inspired by markings that appear on NASA Space Shuttles and other spacecraft upon reentry into Earth’s atmosphere. We can’t wait to share more on this truly out-of-this-world, awesome attraction as we make progress on construction and put these coaches on the track!

Cedar Point, Cedar Fair preparing for another pandemic-focused season in 2021

A strong ending to the shortened seasons at Cedar Point and Kings Island is giving parent company Cedar Fair confidence heading into 2021, even though it’s likely the coronavirus pandemic will affect operations for at least part of next year.
In a call with analysts Wednesday, Cedar Fair CEO Richard Zimmerman said the company gained significant experience in 2020 about how to operate amusement parks during a global health crisis.

Theme parks regularly survey guests on various concepts and trends, though few of them are ever realized. Still, multiple recent surveys by Six Flags show the company is trying to gauge what it needs to do for visitors to feel comfortable returning to its parks. In recent weeks, the Texas-based amusement park chain has sent at least four different surveys assessing the public’s comfort with visiting a theme park during the ongoing pandemic.

Kennywood to retire 4 rides, including Kangaroo

WEST MIFFLIN, PA

When Kennywood opens next spring, four rides will be gone.
The West Mifflin park announced Tuesday that the Kangaroo, Paratrooper, Bayern Kurve and the Volcano are being retired.
“Any time you are making decisions like this, it is very difficult,” said park spokesman Nick Paradise. “But with what the industry is facing in this day and age, we are looking closely at everything.”

Firefighters rescue people stuck on SeaWorld roller coaster

SAN ANTONIO, TX

Firefighters rescued a group of people stuck on a roller coaster at SeaWorld after it got stuck.
Officials were called out to SeaWorld on the Far West Side a little before 1:00 p.m., for a high angle rescue. Details are scarce at this time, as it's still an active investigation, so it's unclear how it happened or how many people got stuck, but firefighters tell got everybody down. No injuries have been reported.
