ANAHEIM, CA
If you are like me, then you no doubt have already started planning your trip to either DisneyLand or DisneyWorld to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge next year. The only problem with that, is that everyone else is planning as well. Bill Zanetti an Orlando, Florida university teacher who studies theme park design, operations and management, expects 200,000 people to line up to be the first inside the new themed land at DisneyLand. This could overwhelm the Anaheim theme park with 10-hour lines, swamping parking and traffic in the area. “The number is based on what I believe is the actual interest,” said Zanetti, who teaches theme park courses at the University of Central Florida. “That’s just how many people I expect to descend on the resort on the first opening day.” FULL STORY How can you keep a water park open at night? Water and darkness are a bad mix for safety, so keeping pools and waterslides open at night requires quite a bit of lighting power. That's not a big deal for hotel pools and the other relatively small installations, but it becomes an overwhelming issue for sprawling water parks, which is why most of them close when the sun goes down.
But water parks are multimillion dollar investments, so operators would welcome any opportunity for their properties to keep making money with extended hours. FULL STORY ORLANDO, FL
Orlando Starflyer, the 450-foot swing attraction on International Drive, will have a drawing to determine who will be on the ride on New Year’s Eve when the year turns from 2018 to 2019. There is no cost to enter the random drawing. Potential riders need only to fill out a form that’s available on Orlando Starflyer’s Facebook page. It asks only for a name and email address. (However, if you are using "holiday shopping" as your excuse for an extra trip to Disney World, Disneyland, or Universal Studios this week, you can just forget about these links and go on as usual. Just pick up something for us, okay?) FULL STORY HERSHEY, PA
A Pennsylvania man has his wallet back nearly four years after it apparently fell out of his pocket while riding a roller coaster. It was a running family joke to tell the kids to look for dad's wallet every time they visited Hersheypark. Jon Anson tells WHTM-TV he got a call from the park that maintenance crews had found his wallet. Inside were his Hersheypark passes, a $25 gift card to a book store, a gift card to a golf center and a Starbucks card with a balance of 87 cents. FULL STORY Recently, Bob Chapek, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products shared some exciting updates during the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Expo (IAAPA). Today, we have highlights from Bob’s presentation that featured a first look at new technology coming to Disney parks, including more lifelike Audio-Animatronics figures and a new ride system for Epcot’s highly-anticipated “Guardians of the Galaxy”-themed attraction.

ichael Womer makes a living performing with alligators. But a recent performance probably scared the living daylights out of his audience. Womer was swinging on a rope over a water pit full of hungry gators when the rope snapped. “It was at this precise moment I knew what a turkey looks like right before Thanksgiving dinner,” he said on a video posted on Facebook. Excitement -- and a healthy dose of Jersey resentment -- have been building around the American Dream mega-mall for over a decade. But now that construction is well underway, and there are waterslides involved, we are really jazzed. Photographers recently captured shots of slide pieces and construction taking place at the development, which is set to become one of the largest malls in North America when it finally opens in the Meadowlands next March. In addition to the 450 retail shops, dozens of restaurants, indoor ski park, Nickelodeon indoor theme park, aquarium, ice skating rink, and luxury movie theaters, the mega-mall will house a DreamWorks waterpark -- promoted as 8 acres of glass-domed, animation-themed water fun. The project's developer, Triple Five, did not respond to requests for comment on the current waterpark construction, but have previously said it will open in the fall of 2019, a few months after the rest of the mall does. With a target date about a year away, here's what passersby are seeing of the future waterpark at the American Dream. FULL STORY |
