After layoffs, state inspectors race to check rides before Ohio amusement parks reopen
This week's summertime weather likely has many thinking about that next trip to Cedar Point.
The park is set to reopen Thursday, July 9.
However, your safety could be in the balance due to state budget cuts.
As Cedar Point preps to once again welcome thrill-seekers, the amusement park is awaiting inspection results from the state.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture is responsible for those at least-annual inspections. But four of the state's 12 ride inspectors were laid off earlier this year because of revenue losses related to COVID-19.
