Bessemer, AL, June 20, 2019 – Alabama Adventure and Splash Adventure is teaming up with Legacy of Hope and Coaster Addict to host the 2nd Annual Donate Life Alabama Coasterthon, benefiting organ, eye, and tissue donation education. This eight-hour charity coasterthon event, held on Friday, August 2, 2019, will challenge the top 24 fundraisers on the amusement park’s world-class wooden roller coaster, Rampage. At 120 feet in height and 3,500 feet in length, Rampage will test the endurance of fundraisers, speeding around the roller coaster track at 56 miles per hour.
“Legacy of Hope is excited to partner with Coaster Addict to host the second annual Donate Life Alabama Coasterthon. We are grateful to Alabama Adventure and Splash Adventure for their generosity to host this event,” states Chris Meeks, executive director of Legacy of Hope. “Not only is the coasterthon a fun event for coaster enthusiasts, but it is an opportunity to educate the community on the life-saving impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation and save lives.” Across the country, one new person is added to the waiting list every ten (10) minutes, and 22 people die per day because the organ they need is not donated in time. In the State of Alabama, more than 1,600 people currently wait for a life-saving transplant. "As a family amusement and water park, we believe it is important for our team to serve our great community and raise awareness about important causes," explains Alabama Adventure & Splash Adventure Owner and President, Dan Koch. "We are proud to host the 2nd Annual Donate Life Alabama Coasterthon, teaming up with our community partners at Legacy of Hope to help raise awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation." This annual event is held during the early morning hours, providing participating riders with unique ride opportunities in near darkness for the majority of the eight-hour event. “In February of 2017, I suddenly lost my girlfriend of over six years to an unexpected, undiscovered brain aneurysm; she was just 31 years old,” remembers Dwayne Kilbourne, founder and CEO of Coaster Addict. “While the weight of her loss lives with us still today, it brings great pride and joy to know that, because of her selfless choice to register to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor, seven people dealing with a life-threatening condition were given a second chance at life through organ donation, and many others enjoyed improved quality of life through tissue donation.” Roller coaster enthusiasts and thrill seekers looking for a challenge can register for the coasterthon event at https://coasteraddict.com/coasterthon. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Legacy of Hope to help advance the education of organ, eye, and tissue donation.
