At long last, Kennywood’s Nightmare is over. The park revealed Monday that after 16 seasons, the park will be ditching Garfield’s Nightmare and restoring the ride to the iconic Old Mill theme. The owners of Kennywood Park plan to build a support facility near the West Mifflin amusement park and relocate several departments there from the company's West Coast headquarters. Palace Entertainment is looking at spaces near the front gate or land that it owns adjacent to Kennywood as potential locations, said Rick Stammel, vice president of theme parks. "The majority of the parks that are operated by Palace Entertainment are on the East Coast, so it just makes sense that we would create this facility here, where we have the most density of our properties," Stammel said Thursday. Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, which owns and operates Cedar Point in Sandusky, is being sued by a former summer intern who claims she was not paid overtime during her employment at the park, even though she claims she sometimes worked up to 60 hours per week. The lawsuit states that she and dozens of other employees routinely worked more than 40 hours each week, but were never paid overtime. The woman, from Green Springs, Ohio, worked as a special events intern from May to August this past year, said she clocked in and out during every workday. Soon, gamers of all ages and expertise will get to experience an immersive world created around what may arguably be the most recognized video games in the world.
As of right now, all the buzz is centered around Universal Studios Japan and it’s Super Nintendo World opening ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics. Though there isn’t much information released about the new theme park, Newsweek reports that it will be filled with “incredibly fun rides, shops, a restaurant, and interactive gameplay throughout the land.” If your mind is as blown as ours, wait ’till you watch this video below of ride-testing of some sort in Japan! ust how big is Kings Island's new giga coaster? Aerial video shows its massive footprint, with 5,321 feet of track spanning a large portion of the amusement park. Orion, soon to be the 10th fastest roller coaster in the world, is slated to open April 9. When it does, it will be one of only seven giga coasters in the world, a class of roller coasters having a height or drop of 300-399 feet. FULL STORY This spring Liseberg opens the new Dark Ride Underland, situated in the children’s area Kaninlandet (the Rabbit Land). For the new ride, visitors will not have to stand in a physical queue and wait. Instead, Liseberg launches a newly developed virtual queuing system.
In connection with Liseberg’s summer premiere in April, the park premieres the new children’s ride Underland – a dark ride that will take guests underground to experience the Liseberg rabbits’ secret and wondrous world. Underland is the first dark ride that Liseberg has built in 50 years and represents the largest ever ride investment in this segment, SEK 150 million in total. New and exciting rides usually equals long queues which is a big challenge for all amusement parks. Over 200 people were here last Saturday rallying over the closing of Indiana Beach and now local leaders are responding. The question is can dozens of voices create an impact for what happens next. "Something good can come from it,” said Monticello Mayor Cathy Gross. Gross said hundreds expressing their admiration for the park could be beneficial. President for the White County Commissioners John Heimlich co-signs and said people voicing their concerns may speak to potential buyers. “It can't hurt,” said Heimlich. “It does show a potential buyer that there is a lot of interest. Thrill-seekers, it's your time to shine! The countdown to Canada's Wonderland opening its doors for the season for another year is nearing the end. But there's a special surprise in store for season pass holders. On April 24, CW is hosting a sneak preview night, meaning you'll be able to enjoy your favourite rides before the busy days of summer. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. that Friday night, the park will open up for a fun night of adventure, great-tasting food, and thrilling excitement. Attendees are able to roam the park and go on the rides they want, except for the splash park. FULL STORY Leading his first earnings call since taking the position, new SeaWorld CEO Serge Rivera confirmed the company was continuing the plan for events and rides, in place since former CEO Joel Manby was in the grips of responding to Blackfish.
During the call, Rivera pointed to the company’s strong 2020 new attraction lineup, saying, "this is the first time in our history we have a major roller coaster opening in each of our five largest theme parks in the same year, and all of these coasters are truly world-class coasters." Beyond 2020, the Orlando company will continue adding new thrill rides across its six parks, while also opening a brand-new Sesame Place park in San Diego. Public documents on the upcoming lakefront coaster in Orlando, and the new rumored new swing ride for Busch Gardens Tampa, have already been posted.
