Guests at Animal Kingdom were escorted off of a popular ride at Disney World on Thursday. Disney officials said first responders with Reedy Creek were called to check out possible smoke at the Flight of Passage ride. The data shows that in 2018 Disney’s 14 parks around the world attracted an estimated 157.3 million visitors which is more than double its nearest challenger – Major League Baseball. The MLB’s attendance total of 69.6 million is driven by a mighty tally of 2,415 matches which is far more than the number held by the NFL or the NBA. It gives Disney greater attendance than the three primary American professional sports leagues combined and this seems set to rise even higher. Earlier this month Walt Disney World in Florida swung open the doors to Rise of the Resistance, a cutting-edge attraction themed to the sci-fi series Star Wars. Edmonton's Hasbro theme park will be the first of its kind in the country and it'll transform your favourite '90s toys, games and characters into thrilling rides. Issues with the attraction building’s fire alarm system have persisted since its opening, leading to lengthy closures in the past. An 18 month-long wait for Cedar Point’s $42 million state-of-the art indoor athletic facility is nearly over. On Wednesday, company officials gave the media a peek inside the new two-story Cedar Point Sports Center that opens early next month even as work crews buzzed about placing the finishing touches on the 145,000-square-foot complex located on U.S. 6 in Perkins Township about 2½ miles from Cedar Point. Boasting 10 basketball courts that convert into 20 volleyball courts, plus a separate “championship” court, a one-eighth mile running track, 11 climbing walls, a ninja warrior course, three party rooms, and an adjoining sports medicine facility run by Firelands Regional Health System, the Sports Center was designed to complement Cedar Point’s outdoor Sports Force Parks next door. A pair of Lightcycles just raced their way into Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park, giving guests the opportunity to preview the energy and excitement of the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction’s high-tech universe long before it opens to guests in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World in 2021. TRON Lightcycle / Run is a coaster-style attraction that will allow riders to board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for a thrilling race through the digital frontier. A similar attraction is a guest-favorite at Shanghai Disneyland since the park’s opening day. Great Escape has given up its effort to place a 165-foot-tall ride in Ghost Town. The amusement park withdrew the proposal from the town Planning Board, and park officials will resubmit the plan with the same ride, but in a new location. Zoning Administrator Craig Brown said he expects the new location to be an area in which rides of that height are allowed. However, he had not yet seen the new plan, he said Monday. It has to be submitted early this week to be on the next Planning Board agenda, and Brown said he expects Great Escape will meet that deadline. FULL STORY |
