Disney’s theme parks had higher total attendance last year than any major sports league worldwide according to new research.
The data shows that in 2018 Disney’s 14 parks around the world attracted an estimated 157.3 million visitors which is more than double its nearest challenger – Major League Baseball. The MLB’s attendance total of 69.6 million is driven by a mighty tally of 2,415 matches which is far more than the number held by the NFL or the NBA.
It gives Disney greater attendance than the three primary American professional sports leagues combined and this seems set to rise even higher. Earlier this month Walt Disney World in Florida swung open the doors to Rise of the Resistance, a cutting-edge attraction themed to the sci-fi series Star Wars. It has become a force to be reckoned with and is so popular that some guests arrive at 6am to begin queuing for it before the gates open.
