Knoebels reopens after flood
One day after the great flood, seated two by two, riders descended the Phoenix’s wooden tracks.
The roller coaster, a standby of Knoebels Amusement Park, buzzed back to life Friday after a week of intense rain and flooding forced staff to close the 92-year-old park for three days this week.
As campers peeked from their tarp-covered tents and families lined up for slices of hot pizza, workers hosed the remaining mud from the park’s low-lying areas, reassembled Italian ice machines, drained river-churned water from Crystal Pool. They put the final cleanup touches on the Elysburg, Northumberland County, amusement park that serves as the highlight for countless families throughout the summer.
