Six Flags Employees Fan Out Across North America for 10th Annual Day of Service with Project 6

Throughout the fall months, team members from all of the company’s 26 parks and corporate office offer their time and energy to spread the joy of Six Flags and make a difference in the lives of others.

Over the past 9 years, the company has committed more than 60,000 person-hours, working with 100-plus organizations to address the needs of children and families, public welfare or environmental issues. In 2019, Six Flags team members are once again answering the call to go where they are needed.

• The Great America and Hurricane Harbor Rockford teams this year volunteered at Bernie’s Book Bank. Team members spent time sorting through donated books for usability and packaging the books for delivery. In addition, the park team also donated over 400 new and gently used books and made a monetary contribution to support the organization’s mission.

• Six Flags Over Georgia and White Water employees will be assisting with several projects and builds at the Center for Children and Young Adults in Austell on November 22. Serving multiple counties throughout the Atlanta metro area, and surrounding counties, the Center provides safe housing and comprehensive support services for at-risk and homeless youth.

• The Great Escape had two projects lined up for Project 6 this season including a partnership with the Tri-County United Way (Glens Falls, NY), in support of The Great Escape’s annual Keep Kids on Track Backpack Drive, which collected over 1,000 backpacks with school supplies. The Resort team also partnered with Glens Falls Family YMCA (Brant Lake, NY), and completed a number of projects including painting, upgrading landscaped areas, and doing fence and building repairs.

• Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Hurricane Harbor Concord are supporting several organizations in the local community. At the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, employees bagged donated produce. Additionally, employees assisted with construction, cleanup and painting at the Humane Society of the North Bay.

• After distributing school supplies earlier this year, The Six Flags Fiesta team has additional Project 6 initiatives including purchasing gifts for children as part of the Salvation Army Angel Tree program and providing gifts for families through San Antonio’s Adopt-a-Family program. Team members will also be volunteering with Soldier’s Angel, sorting food and preparing the items for distribution to military veterans and active duty personnel.

• On November 13, the Six Flags Darien Lake team will also be rolling up its sleeves and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity for this year’s Project 6. Team members will be assisting the team at HFH in building affordable, sustainable housing for those in need in Hamburg, NY. Darien Lake team members will help with painting, landscaping, weatherization and repairs.

• On November 23, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown will be collaborating with Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County. The team is looking forward to meeting new people and lending their efforts toward a single mission, that of building strong and stable communities. The team will work alongside other volunteers to repair existing homes for homeowners needing assistance.

• Six Flags Magic Mountain will send groups of employees to three area community organizations to perform a variety of tasks including painting, fence building, landscaping, sorting, stocking and clerical assistance. The team will assist at Carousel Ranch, which offers equestrian therapy and vocational training to children and young adults with special needs. They will also volunteer with the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry and the Boys and Girls Club.

• Six Flags Great Adventure will celebrate Project 6 for an entire week. Large park teams will fan out across the state to lend a hand to a variety of worthy causes including farming assistance at America’s Grow-A-Row; adult crafts and activities for the disabled in partnership with the United Way and New Jersey Institute for Disabilities; and donation deliveries, warehouse maintenance and gift bag stuffing at Holiday Express.

• The Six Flags Mexico team members fanned out across the city to volunteer at nine different non-profit groups. Among them, Mosaico Down, which works to improve the quality of life for children with Down syndrome; San Judas Tadeo, a nursing home facility for the elderly; and Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, which addresses the needs of children living with cancer. The team performed a variety of tasks including cleaning, gardening, painting, and cooking.

• For the Hurricane Harbor Oaxtepec team, Project 6 affords them an opportunity to beautify the streets of Oaxtepec for area residents. Some 50 team members will spend the day pruning shrubbery, sweeping streets and collecting garbage. Additionally, employees will volunteer their services at the Niños de Eugenia Foundation, which supports abandoned or orphaned children.

• Some 160 employees from Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor volunteered their services to give back to surrounding North Texas communities. A group sorted and packed food at the Tarrant Area Food Bank, while another group headed to Fort Worth to work on a home build with Trinity Habitat for Humanity. Employees also partnered with the Salvation Army to set up Angel Tree collection boxes.

• On November 15, employees from Six Flags St. Louis will spend their day of community service helping with various projects such as painting, landscaping, winterizing, sorting and packaging school supplies, food, and toys. The park is working with a number of organizations including Camp Wyman, Animal Protective Association, Circle of Concern, Epworth Children’s Center, KidSmart and Miracles N’ Progress.

• La Ronde is once again partnering with La Guignolée des Médias de La Rive-Sud to collect money and non-perishable food items for unprivileged families in the community. The food and money collected on December 5 will provide food baskets to families in need during the holiday season. La Ronde’s team members will be stationed on various street corners throughout Longueuil taking donations.

• The Frontier City and White Water Bay team members spent a fun and productive day volunteering at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Employees helped the zoo’s horticulture and exhibit teams prepare for the upcoming winter months by planting, weeding, raking leaves and mulching. Another set of volunteers had the opportunity to feed and help care for the animals.

• The Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Phoenix team was excited to participate in their first Project 6 Day since joining the Six Flags family. Employees of the waterpark spent the day at UMOM Center in Phoenix, Arizona volunteering at the main campus by painting and making renovations to the dining room, along with other tasks.

• At Six Flags America, team members supported three different initiatives including the Bladensburg Waterfront Park Cleanup, where they performed landscape work. At the Capital Area Food Bank, team members sorted canned goods for distribution and at Prince George’s Community College, the group participated in a number of improvement projects including painting, landscaping and tile repairs.

• Six Flags corporate team members volunteered at two non-profit organizations. At Children’s Hunger Fund in Dallas, employees helped sort and prepare Food Paks for distribution. Each Pak holds up to 20 pounds of non-perishable food and can feed a family of four for up to a week. In New York, employees partnered with Volunteers of America to support their Brightening Birthdays initiative, which takes place in seven homeless shelters throughout NYC. The Six Flags team helped wrap presents and created personalized birthday cards and crowns.
