Valleyfair! park has announced Steel Venom, a new 185-foot tall Impulse coaster from Intamin AG, ending rumors from the past few months of a new inverted coaster to arrive at the park in 2003.
The eight-and-a-half million dollar Steel Venom coaster will feature two vertical tower sections much like Superman: Ultimate Escape at Ohio's Six Flags Worlds of Adventure and V2: Vertical Velocity located at Six Flags Great America near Chicago.
Riders will be blasted forwards and backwards five times through the vertical U-shaped course, climbing a twisting spike and backwards straight ascent and at one point coming to a stop while facing straight down.
Steel Venom comes as Valleyfair's seventh coaster, following 1999's Mad Mouse and the Morgan-crafted Wild Thing which opened in 1996.
The new ride will be the second Impulse coaster for the Cedar Fair park chain. Wicked Twister, which opened at Cedar Fair's flagship park, Cedar Point in 2002, was the first.
