The Playland Wooden Coaster in Vancouver turns 60 — and since 1958, it’s survived plenty of ups and downs
Unfavourable economic circumstances are why Vancouver’s beloved wooden roller-coaster is still standing today, say roller-coaster experts and enthusiasts.
The Playland Wooden Coaster, revered by amusement park enthusiasts across the continent, turns 60 this summer.
Built in 1958, it is one of 153 wooden roller-coasters in North America and managed to survive the wooden roller-coaster purge of the 1970s, said Laura Ballance, spokesperson for Playland.
